This wordle gives us a different way to look at the Common Core State Standards. I just created it using Wordle which, in this case, offers us a useful view about what the Common Core values most at least according to the frequency with which it uses certain words. You can also access this wordle by clicking here.
I know, I know: it's been forever since I posted to the blog. I am working on all online sites and sources like this now for major overhaul in 2013. Thanks for your patience with and interest in my work on this blog and my newest book.
Lots of stuff about words, about writing, and about language -- but how odd that the standards remain so aloof from the reality of the language.
Interesting. I wonder if that obtains in social studies and mathematics and chemistry.

Fun alternative Wordle, Dr. Dea! yes, which came first...? I know my answer. And Durff---I'll say that they should both matter in a world where kids need to be able write across multiple media, but you still make a good point. Thanks.

It is a sad commentary on our public school education that what we value most is text, writing, and words. I propose we should value more highly composition, and comprehension. The medium should not matter, it's the message that counts.

I, too, was curious as to how the Common Core would look synthesized through Wordle. Not surprisingly, our resultant images are quite similar. I chose an egg-shape, in my mind questioning which came first: common standards or good teaching? Many of my teachers say they are already doing this...and some are. Given the standards are successful in raising student achievement, my question: When it's all said and done, who will get the credit--David Coleman or teachers?
